Howell Cobb (Georgia) 1851-1854. President Buchanan's Secretary of the Treasury and also served as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. Cobb served as presiding officer of the First Provisional Confederate Congress and barely missed the presidency of the Confederate States. During the War, he was a Confederate general who fought at Antietam and by the end of the War was a Major General in command of the District of Georgia. Oliver Ellsworth (Connecticut), member of the Continental Congress 1777-1783 serving on the Board of Treasury (among others). The Board of Treasury was the preceding agency to the Department of the Treasury which was formed September 2, 1789. Shown here is his signature matted with a steel plate engraving. Not seen but underneath the mat is a 1781 draft from the Connecticut Pay Table Office ordering payment which Ellsworth has endorsed. Ellsworth was also the 3rd Chief Justice of the Supreme Court nominated by George Washington.....$250

Neff U.S. Treasurer" matted with one of the first year Bicentennial two dollar bills which bares her engraved signature as Treasurer. John Wesley Snyder (Arkansas) served as U.S. Secretary of the Treasury from 1946-1953 in the Cabinet of Harry S. Truman. Offered here is a steel plate engraving titled "The Treasury Department" autographed by Snyder neatly matted in linen with a crisp 1935 D Series one dollar bill which bares his engraved signature. The reverse of the bill is open and you can see does NOT bare the quote "In God We Trust". This stirred up quite a controversy in its day resulting in the quote being restored to the currency as it does today......$95
